Movimento perpetuo

  • Composed: May 2016
  • Duration: 3 ½ min
  • Instrumentation: Harp solo or Piano
  • Commissioned by: Bristol University Contemporary Music Venture (CMV)
  • First performance: by Rosy Moore at the CMV 2016 public workshops in the Victoria Rooms, Bristol on the 1 June 2016

  • Programme note:

Repetition. Repetition is a crucial component of musical rhetoric, and one which has long fascinated me. Repetition fascinates me. What to repeat and what to let go; the delicate balance. This piece plays with these ideas. It plays with small motifs, turning them, examining them, changing them. Always [mostly] moving forward. Playing with what to repeat, what to let go, and finding out where the next turn of the flow may carry us.
